JOB TITLE: Technician, Senior Laboratory

LOCATION / DEPARTMENT: Wanship/Salt Lake City, UT / Production

REPORTS TO: Quality Control & New Product Development Manager

DATE OF REVISION: July 14, 2017

FLSA STATUS: Non Exempt

BAND/GRADE: 14

Summary/Objective:

Performs routine and analytical procedures for lab and production to support daily operations under the supervision of the QC & New Product Development Manager. In addition to lab blends and instrumental analysis, this position will require using and recording data from a variety of analyses.

Essential Job Functions:

• Conduct and record daily quality checks for lab instrumentation and bottling line
• Prepare lab blends, by using a mathematical approach, to support recipe management and development
• Precise sample preparation for various analyses using dilution techniques
• Use and understanding of manual and automated lab instrumentation - including a density meter and spectrophotometer with the potential for more sophisticated instrumentation in the future
• Daily maintenance of lab instrumentation to ensure precision and accuracy in measurements
• Use critical thinking skills to troubleshoot instrumentation and identify problems or inconsistencies with results
• Setup and participation in sensory sessions
• Prepare samples for shipment for external analysis
• Record data accurately and on a timely basis
• As instrumentation is added to the lab, assist in implementation of SOPs and carry out all relevant lab analyses in a timely manner
• Maintain inventories of necessary supplies in lab
• Communication with appropriate teams to request samples
• Prepare samples for marketing/sales team, as requested
• Use of in-house software for inventory monitoring and sample entry
• Participates in continual education programs, as directed by manager, to enhance job performance and knowledge
• Contribution to keeping a clean and organized work environment
• Complies with safety regulations and procedures and use of personal protective equipment for working in a hazardous environment and with hazardous chemicals

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in a related science (chemistry, biology, etc.)
• At least 21 years of age
• Experience in a laboratory setting, 2+ years preferred
• Detail oriented and quality focused
• Strong analytical and organizational skills
• Strong work ethic and positive attitude
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to work independently as well as in teams in addition to multi-tasking
• Proficiency with databases, spreadsheets, and word processing
• Ability to lift 50lbs, using safe lifting practices
• Must have reliable transportation

• Physical Requirements: The employee frequently is required to sit, talk, and listen. The employee is occasionally required to stand; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. Frequent walking, including going up and down stairs and bending are required. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

• Work Environment: Working conditions in certain areas of the distillery are cold, wet, slippery and noisy. Involves exposure to hazardous conditions.
