Founded in 1972, Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant is an importer, retailer, wholesaler, and distributor of fine wine from France and Italy, headquartered in Berkeley, California. We exclusively sell our own imports from French and Italian winegrowers, purchasing wines direct from the domaines and focusing on small producers whose wines express the authentic style of their native region.
In 2025, we are embarking on an exciting new chapter: opening our first new retail location in the Marin Country Mart in Larkspur, CA. This boutique will bring the same unparalleled expertise and passion for fine wine to a new audience. We’re looking for talented individuals to join us and play a pivotal role in this milestone moment for our company.
Role Summary:
Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant is seeking an experienced, visionary leader to oversee the launch and ongoing operations of our new Marin Country Mart boutique. As the Retail Manager, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of this new location, collaborating with ownership and upper management during the planning and concept phase to determine the store’s design, functionality, and operational strategies. Once the store is open, you will lead the team, drive sales, and ensure that every aspect of the boutique reflects the company’s mission, vision, and legacy.
Responsibilities:
• Planning and Concept Development: Collaborate with ownership and management to define the vision, layout, and operational strategies for the Marin Country Mart boutique.
• Brand Extension and Store Opening Expertise: Provide leadership and guidance during the store’s opening process, ensuring a smooth and successful launch.
• Team Leadership: Hire, train, and manage a team of wine professionals, ensuring alignment with the company’s mission and culture.
• Store Management: Oversee all aspects of day-to-day operations, including sales performance and customer experience.
• Training and Development: Lead team training sessions to ensure comprehensive knowledge of the Kermit Lynch portfolio and sales philosophy.
• Customer Engagement: Foster strong relationships with customers, providing expert guidance and delivering an exceptional in-store experience.
• Communication with Management: Serve as the primary liaison with upper management, providing updates on store progress and performance.
• Strategic Vision: Implement processes and initiatives that align with the company’s long-term goals and enhance the boutique’s success.
Requirements:
• 5+ years of experience with direct-to-consumer wine sales and management
• Proven experience in brand extension and managing store openings
• Proven strong communication and organizational skills
• Demonstrable computer skills including Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and POS
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds
• French and/or Italian language proficiency a plus
Schedule: 5 days/week, 8-hour shifts
Compensation: $100,000 - $120,000 plus benefits package
Anticipated Hire Date: Spring 2025
