A true local gem, French Creek Vineyard was established in 1981 with the planting of 9 acres of Wente Clone Chardonnay. This 40-acre vineyard is nestled peacefully on a south-facing slope above the Yakima River and lies at the edge of a canyon. An ideal location that allows for optimal air drainage, especially during those chilly spring frosts. The soils are primarily silt loam with weathered and unweathered basalt bedrock. A true treasure of this vineyard is the expanded plantings of multiple Chardonnay clones, including a masal selection from the old block, Mt. Eden and Robert Young – the first of these planted in the state. The east half of the property boasts Bordeauz varieties of Cabernet Sauvignon (28 years old), Merlot and some Cabernet Franc. High density plantings can be found of Rhone red grapes such as Syrah, Grenache and Mourvedre with a small amount of Rhone whites like Grenache Blanc, Marsanne, Roussanne, Viognier, Clairette and Picpoul. French Creek’s history and reputation has led to a long line of demand. Current winery clients include Sleight of Hand, Devium, Forgeron, The Walls, Va Piano and many more.
