French Lab Announces New Testing Method for TCA in Barrels

But cooperage federation says TCA affects less than 0.04 percent of new barrels

Pascal Chattonet of Laboratoire Excell in France has developed a new protocol for testing new oak barrels for 2,4,6-trichloroanisole (TCA) contamination during the manufacturing process. The test involves analyzing the batches of water that are used during barrel leakage tests for releasable TCA with advanced measuring equipment.
