For the first time in over 10 years, wine sales from the Côtes du Rhône—an appellation producing primarily red wines that are grown across 165 square miles in France's Rhône Valley—are decreasing: 6 percent in volume in 2003 and 3 percent in value—120 million of bottles sold for a turnover of 336 million euros.
