It is known that permanent grass cover in the vineyard influences the growth of grapevine roots. The long term effects, however, are not understood clearly. Obviously, such research just cannot be hurried and requires a substantial commitment to maintain a given set of experimental protocols during a significant portion of what would be the commercial life of the vineyard studied.
