Grenache Acreage Decreases in 2013, Tonnage Rises

Plantings of Grenache grapes in California rose slightly in 2013, just up 1.9 percent. According to the California Department of Food and Agriculture, 6,020 acres of the variety were planted in 2012 and 6,137 were planted in 2013; 201 of those acres were non-bearing. The number of new plantings dropped significantly in 2008 after three years of more than 100 acres planted each year.
