The disease du jour may be red blotch, but the one that is destroying most vineyards is not a virus—it’s a fungus. There was a study done in the late ’90s (and published in 2000) that showed roughly a 16 percent revenue loss in 1999 for winegrape vineyards statewide relative to hypothetically unaffected vineyards.
