New Electronic Deer Repellent Proven to be Effective and Humane
Bird Gard, the world leader in electronic bird control, announces the Deer Shield line of bioacoustic deer repellent products has completed successful field trials and is now available for agricultural use.
Deer Shield uses a deer’s own language and natural instincts to effectively and humanely repel them from crops, orchards and vineyards. Digital recordings of alarmed, hostile and territorial deer are broadcast through high fidelity weather-resistant speakers to trigger a primal fear and flee response. Deer soon relocate to where they can feed without feeling threatened.
Deer Shield is based on Bird Gard’s 25 years of research and development into bioacoustic animal control systems. The University of Nebraska-Lincoln contributed to the development of Deer Shield, which has been proven effective through extensive field testing.
The annual impact of deer foraging in vineyards and other crops is estimated to be in the hundreds of millions of dollars. Deer also create a severe public health risk. Last year, deer feces in an Oregon strawberry field was linked to an outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 which sickened 15 people and killed two. In 1996, deer fecal contamination of dropped apples in California apple orchards resulted in a multi-state E. coli outbreak.
There are two Deer Shield models available. Deer Shield Pro is motion activated and is designed to protect crop access points and areas up to 1.5 acres. Deer Shield Super Pro is fully adjustable and can protect up to 6 acres.
