Third generation Napa Valley native, Jason Butler, is proud to announce Oakinsight, his new service venture serving the West Coast wine industry. Jason will draw on his twenty-plus years of cooperage experience to provide cost-saving and educational programs to winemakers, owners, hotels and tasting rooms.
By working with wineries Jason will remove the myth and mystery around barrel building and purchasing toward the goal of attaining the winemaker’s vision for his wine… saving barrel budget dollars in the process. Creating an intensely-focused barrel program will lower costs, extend barrel life, remove variability, and create more consistent wines from barrel-to-barrel and vintage-to-vintage.
Winery tasting room staff members will profit from Jason’s seminars on the purpose, effect and impact that barrel selection and construction has on their wines. Hotel guests and tour groups will be educated and entertained by Jason’s enthusiasm as he shares his knowledge of barrels and their contribution to fine wine. Tours of actual cooperages can be scheduled.
Cellar crews will benefit from his in-depth training sessions on evaluation, maintenance and repair.
Ultimately, wineries will realize and sell a more consistent product at a lower production cost – savings that will certainly justify his services.
Father to a fourth generation of Napa natives, Jason has grown up within the rapidly expanding wine industry in California and other emerging regions. His sourcing and consulting travels have taken him to ground-breaking projects throughout the US, France, Europe and Asia. As a Master Cooper, in over 20 years of barrel building, he has developed cooperages and barrel styles appreciated by many of California’s cult winemakers. His experience covers all facets of both the traditional and the technological. Now, as owner/principal of Oakinsight, Jason is sharing his intimate knowledge of the global barrel arena.
