Nomacorc Celebrates 10th Anniversary and Production of 10 Billionth Wine Closure

Date: 04/21/10

Nomacorc, which began ten years ago as a wine aficionado’s solution to the pervasive problem of cork taint in wine, has grown to become the world’s largest producer of alternative wine closures. In 2009, Nomacorc produced and shipped its ten billionth wine closure since its founding in 1999 and marked continued growth in its global share of the still wine closure market. Italian winery Cantele bottled their award-winning Negroamaro with Nomacorc’s ten billionth closure.

“We are truly proud to have experienced continued growth in a difficult year for our industry in order to meet such a significant milestone,” said Lars von Kantzow, chief executive officer. “Winemakers continue to embrace our closures because they deliver consistent oxygen transfer rates and ensure optimal wine maturation in the bottle.”

Nomacorc closures are the leading still wine closure brand across all closure types in France, Germany, the United States and other countries based on closure volume. Nomacorc sustained double-digit growth across European markets in the second half of 2009 and now produces nearly 15% of still wine closures globally.

“We have used Nomacorc closures for years in many of our red and white wines,” said Paolo Cantele, owner of Cantele and recipient of Nomacorc’s ten billionth wine closure. “We continue to be very satisfied with the quality of Nomacorc closures and the service we receive from the company.”
