iTK Introduces Vintel

Date: 01/25/13

iTK today introduces Vintel, a state-of-the-art, web-based decision support system for optimum vineyard management and superior quality wine. Vintel is the first web-based tool for real-time and predictive management of agronomic decisions, using environmental and climatic data, says iTK owner and manager, Eric Jallas of Montpellier, France. "Vintel applies agronomic modeling and artificial intelligence to drive the vintner’s decision-making process," Jallas says. The predictive tool allows for the kind of management analysis vineyard managers need to deliver precisely what the vines need, when and where they need it.

Working in conjunction with researchers in vine physiology, public agronomic institutes, grape growers, input manufacturers and the French government, iTK built Vintel based on predictive agronomic and biological simulation models. The result is a comprehensive, web-based system that provides growers with timely and accurate data to manage daily vineyard operations. Vintel can collect viticulture data from in-field sensors and allows for user to optmize their use and upload data remotely via smart phones and tablets or from third party consultants.

iTK designed the predictive engine that powers Vintel to give vintners strong models upon which to base decisions. Statistical analysis helps growers evaluate multiple virtual scenarios in pursuit of the optimum quality vintage. The software evaluates farm histories, climate, cultivar properties, soil properties, plant maturity and pest cycles to provide actionable information. Vintel then provides the user with daily monitoring reports, detailed plot information, best practices, yield predictions, irrigation management, fertilization information, risk prevention solutions and quality control strategies.

The Vintel application is highly customizable and can be easily integrated into current management schemes and vineyards of any size. It provides unique crop management solutions for irrigation, fertilization, pesticide application and quality control that allow producers to more effectively manage their vineyards and improve their bottom line, according to Philippe Roche, the California-based iTK Americas manager for Vintel. He says the cloud-based platform allows easy access and automatic updates within the Vintel modeling engine.
