Don Sebastiani and Sons is currently looking for a Cellar Lead with prior winery cellar experience. Prior cellar supervision and general winery cellar knowledge of protocols and practices is required. Winemaking skills or knowledge is a plus. The Cellar Lead provides general directions and coordination for all cellar activities and programs. The position is responsible for the supervision and management of the cellar team, supplies, equipment, environmental safety, sanitation, wine movement, and our cellar programs.
Position Summary:
Coordinates and implements daily cellar activities such as supervising and training cellar crew and scheduling job assignments. Provides instruction, training and assistance to cellar workers. Monitors performance, and communicates with management. Ensures compliance with all safety and personnel procedures and policies.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
• Supervise Cellar Crew to include providing training, direction, guidance, evaluation, and feedback.
• Prepare and assign work orders to appropriate cellar staff to maximize staff resources and cellar output.
• Ensure sanitary practices and operations of pumps and filters to rack, transfer, and clarify juice and wine in the cellar.
• Gauge bulk inventory.
• Perform and direct equipment maintenance.
• Implement procedures required by Winemaker. Direct and manage cellar operations effectively and appropriately.
• Document and update the Cellar Procedure manual as required.
• Perform and direct chemical additions to wine.
• Direct and oversee operation of all complex cellar equipment to include but not limited to, membrane and pad filters, all pumps, cross flow filter, etc.
• Communicates regularly with the Winemaking Team on the weekly schedule, preparing for incoming bulk wine, making blends, being updated on the bottling schedule, etc.
• Prepare daily worksheets for each bottling day to include one for the lab and one for the bottling line.
• Facilitate meetings with cellar workers as needed to discuss organizational goals, address safety issues, training, and development.
• Order supplies for cellar as needed.
• Write the work schedule for double shifts, manage overtime, and review requests for time off by the cellar staff.
• Notify Winemaker immediately of any discipline or performance issues of staff, safety concerns, wine spills, policy and procedure violations, and equipment malfunction or other emergency.
• Prepare reports and work with the budget as required.
• Participate in and attend all meetings and training as required.
• Perform other work assignments as assigned.

Education/Experience/Skills:
• H.S diploma or GED required, Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Minimum 2 years experience in a winery cellar position required. 3-5 years experience preferred.
• Minimum of 1 year supervisory experience in a winery cellar required.
• Knowledge and understanding of safe cellar practices to include safe handling of chemicals required.
• Knowledge and understanding of confined space entry process and procedure required.
• Knowledge and understanding of winery cellar procedures required.
• Ability to perform basic to intermediate math required.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, and Outlook required. Ability to operate and perform computer-related tasks with specific equipment and software applications.
• Ability to speak, read, and write English proficiently required.
• Ability to multi-task effectively, prioritize work appropriately, and work under minimal supervision is required.
• Ability to supervise, manage, direct, and provide feedback to direct reports is required.
Other Requirements:
• Must be able to use up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or 10 pounds of force to regularly move objects.
• Requires ability to sit, stand, and walk sometimes for prolonged periods of time.
• Requires sufficient good health to properly perform duties.
• Must be able to drive assigned vehicles or personal vehicle, with appropriate state license, and follow all applicable laws. Must provide proof of auto liability insurance and be eligible to be insured under DS&S’s liability insurance based on motor vehicle records.
