Montes U.S.A. Appoints Ginevra Altomara as Brand Manager

Ginevra Altomara is the newly appointed Brand Manager for Montes U.S.A.

Montes U.S.A. is the American arm of Vina Montes, Chile – producer of Montes wines including Purple Angel. Montes also owns Argentina based Kaiken Wines which added to its portfolio this year, two new high-end wines, Corte and Mai. Montes U.S.A. also makes Star Angel and Napa Angel from Paso Robles and Napa Valley, respectively.

As Brand Manager Ginevra Altomara will represent Montes U.S.A. in its entirety. She will educate, promote and represent all Montes brands in the United States, from all three countries. Montes wines are imported into the United States through TGIC Importers, Inc. and distributed nationally through various leading distributors – in California through Titan Wines & Spirits.

TGIC Importers’ Marketing Division also handles all PR and Marketing services for Montes brands.

Altomara was previously National Trade and Education Director at Marnier-Lapostelle, Inc., from March 2006 to January 2011 where she managed all aspects of brand development, marketing, sales, PR, Education and Distributor Management for Cht. de Sancerre and Lapostelle Wines.

Prior to her position there, Altomara held the role of Wine Manager at Peerless Importers, from January 2005 to March 2006. From July 2003 to December 2004, Altomara managed the Beverage Program for six of Richard Sandoval’s restaurants as Corporate Beverage Director for Modern Mexican Beverage Group. During March 2002 to July 2003, Altomara was Beverage Director for Django creating the wine and cocktail program, and managed the opening team for a 350-seat brasserie in its launch phase.

Altomara will work closely with TGIC Importers in her new role. “I still believe we need to educate the public on the super premium wines of Chile”, she says. “As a value-driven area of wine production, the single vineyard and icon wines need to be expressed as fully as possible to consumers. Showcasing their individuality will prompt the consumer to increase their awareness of the extraordinary terroir and hand crafted wines of Montes. Understanding the wines of Montes is equal to appreciating them. The brand truly over-delivers.

“TGIC has driven the growth the category has made in this country over the past 25 years,” explains Altomara. “And over-delivering on quality-to-price ratio has been part of the progress for TGIC. Utilizing this company’s knowledge and expertise in this category, and my experience with South American wines to educate the consumer will be vital in the growth of this brand.”

Altomara hails from New York City but is now based in San Francisco, California. She is a graduate of Hunter College CUNY. She is a Certified Sommelier and CSW.
