Foppiano Vineyards, located in the famed Russian River Valley in northern Sonoma County, today announced that Dennis Luz has joined Foppiano as Assistant Winemaker. Formerly with J Vineyards, Luz has nine years of experience working with Russian River Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. He will work alongside winemaker Natalie West as she continues to build on Foppiano’s reputation for excellent wines.
Dennis Luz grew up in Humboldt County and has made Sonoma his home for the past ten years. Starting as an intern at J Vineyards during harvest nine years ago, Luz worked his way up through winemaking, contributing to the production of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Sparkling Wine. “If asked, I’d say that Pinot Noir is my favorite wine to make and drink, but I can’t wait to learn about the nuances of making Petite Sirah,” said Dennis. Truly a winemaking family, his wife is assistant winemaker at Ferrari Carano in Dry Creek Valley. When Dennis isn’t making wine he enjoys mountain biking, snowboarding and diving for abalone off the Sonoma Coast.
As Sonoma County’s oldest family-owned winery, the 115-year history of Foppiano Vineyards confirms that through determination, tradition can be maintained and nurtured. Winemaker Natalie West works closely with fifth generation vineyard manager Paul Foppiano to create an estate vineyard with respect for the land and for the classic grape varieties that thrive in the Russian River Valley. Natalie’s estate wines include a Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and their celebrated Petite Sirah, the flagship wine for Foppiano Vineyards. The winery tasting room resides in the original Foppiano homestead and is conveniently located just south of Healdsburg on Old Redwood Highway. Visitors can take a self-guided tour of their 160-acre estate vineyard while enjoying a taste of their wines, including library vintages of their acclaimed Petite Sirah.
