Date: 04/10/14

In an update sent to membership, Wine Institute sent the following update:

Sally Murphy, our colleague and dear friend who headed up Wine Institute's Washington, D.C. office as federal relations director for close to 10 years, passed away April 4. Her husband, Bill, was at her side. Sally retired from Wine Institute in 2013 after being diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease).

Sally joined Wine Institute in 2003 after a successful career in government affairs in the telecommunications industry and years of public service on Capitol Hill in both the House and Senate. She loved representing Wine Institutes member wineries and was well known as a respected and tireless champion for California wine. Sally was honored in June 2013 by the U.S. Congress for her many contributions to the California wine industry. Information on services and acknowledgements are available by contacting
