Votto Vines Importing, a rapidly expanding wine importing and marketing company, has announced that its CEO and president, Mike Votto, was recently selected to the Connecticut Magazine annual list of the 40 emerging business leaders under 40.
Said Connecticut Magazine: It’s amazing how often a paper route turns out to be a predictor of later entrepreneurial success. Michael Votto started his at age 7 and kept it going till he was 14, when he gave it up . . . to start a painting company. Today, Votto’s a dynamic attorney — and, no surprise here, president of a fast-growing, family-run wine-importing, tourism and consulting company called Votto Vines. [Connecticut Magazine, January 2013]
Votto Vines ascent over the past four years has largely been due to the company’s compilation of highly rated wines as well as the development of high profile proprietary brands, including the Leone d’Oro line of fine Italian wines developed with the Sons of Italy, which landed on the Wine Spectator Top 100 in 2012 (Leone d’Oro Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG 2009 - #49). Votto Vines is also developing wine programs with music legend BB King and famed eco-stylist Danny Seo, while the Votto Vines 90+ collection is comprised of wines from award winning family wineries in Italy, Australia, Spain, France and Argentina, including Monte del Fra (Veneto), Tabarrini (Umbria), Casalvento (Tuscany), Burgo Viejo (Rioja), Los Clop (Mendoza), La Croix de Saint Jean (Langedoc), Bellarmine (Australia) and Vecchia Cantina (Tuscany).
Said Votto of the selection, “It’s a tremendous honor and very humbling. I think it is a real testament to our family and, of course, our growing business, of which I am quite proud. My hope is that we continue to work hard and prove ourselves as valuable partners to our suppliers, customers, distributors and other contacts within the industry.”
Prior to co-founding Votto Vines, Votto spent several years practicing commercial real estate and corporate law at Schulte Roth & Zabel in New York City and Goodwin Procter in Boston where he focused on hospitality industry transactions on behalf of private equity funds and real estate development and management companies. Mr. Votto earned a bachelor’s degree cum laude in European History from Union College, a law degree magna cum laude from Syracuse University and has completed Wine Studies Level II coursework at the Boston University Elizabeth Bishop Wine Resource Center.
Votto is a published author in the fields of Italian citizenship and genealogy and commercial real estate finance and he currently sits on the board of directors of two New York City based technology companies.
