International winemaker and consultant Paul Hobbs announced today that he will serve as consulting winemaker for Juanicó Wines in Canelones, Uruguay. Hobbs will work with the Deicas family, who founded the winery in 1979, to improve the portfolio of wines, including the Don Pascual and Pueblo del Sol brands.
"I've long respected the Deicas family for their efforts in elevating Tannat," said Hobbs. "Together we plan to promote wines of Uruguay while bringing greater exposure to the Deicas family on an international scale."
This relationship marks Hobbs' first consultation project in Uruguay. Hobbs currently consults for wineries in California, Argentina, Chile, France, Canada and Armenia. In 2012, Hobbs added several wineries to his consulting portfolio, including: Anakena (Chile), Sterling Vineyards (Napa Valley), Bodega Benegas (Mendoza), Chalk Hill (Healdsburg) and Chalone Vineyards (Chalone, California).
