Tom Meadowcroft, winegrower and founder of Meadowcroft Wines (www.meadowcroftwines.com) announces a promotion of longtime co-worker and winemaker Petar Kirilov to the position of Winemaker for the Meadowcroft, Thomas Henry and Foyt Family labels. Kirilov joined Meadowcroft Wines in 2008 to oversee the production of small lot wines. During the past four years, the winery has increased its annual production from 3,500 cases to 25,000 cases.
“Petar Kirilov has a rare talent in the winemaking industry: to be able to assemble a series of different wines, while maintaining our excellent wine stylistic direction from vintage to vintage,” said Tom Meadowcroft. “Doing this with more than ten different wines is a very complex task and requires a high level of alchemy.”
Kirilov grew up in Bulgaria, graduating from the prestigious University of Food Technologies in 2002 with a Master’s degree in Beverage Technology, with a specialization in wine, beer, spirits and soft drink technology. He began his professional career at a Bulgarian factory specializing in high alcohol beverages. In 2003 he decided to leave for California and learn more about the winemaking process. He interned at Truchard Vineyards in Napa, being promoted to assistant winemaker. In 2005 he joined Vinovation, a hi-tech wine company, as winemaker and was involved in numerous research and development projects.
