Society of Wine Educators President Ira Norof announced today that Mark Chandler of Chandler & Company will become the Society’s new Marketing Manager on a consulting contract.
“This is a great move for the Society” says Norof, Director of Education for Southern Wine and Spirits for Southern California. “We have made great strides in serving the industry’s need for wine education, but there are so many more people we can reach with Mark’s great reputation throughout the country. His deep appreciation for the Society and its potential will be a tremendous asset.”
Chandler has been a member of the Society since 1982, and was annual conference chair in Sacramento in 1998. He was subsequently elected to the board and served as President from 1999 through 2001. During Chandler’s tenure the Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW) certification was initiated. Since that time some 7000 domestic and international wine trade members have earned the certification.
“I am very excited to help increase the visibility of the Society and its certification programs in the trade at many levels” explains Chandler. “We are especially interested in bolstering our Industry Member roster, and will be offering some great incentives for companies to do so.”
Chandler has held many positions in his 30+ year career in wine, from winemaker and marketer to general manager and educator. He was Executive Director of the Lodi Winegrape Commission from 1991 to 2011. In early 2012 he established Chandler & Company, which specializes in winery association management, and is based in Lodi, California.
