Press Release: Sonoma, Calif., June 4, 2010 – Winery Insider (wineryinsider.com), the first members-only, private sale company to focus exclusively on the wine category, and Humanitas Wine Company are teaming up on World Oceans Day – June 8th – in support of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill response effort. 100% of the profits of Humanitas wines sold by Winery Insider during the one-day sale, which will feature the winery’s Signum and Good Earth wines at 40% or more below suggested retail prices, will be donated to Ocean-related organizations to support ocean conservation and Deepwater Horizon oil spill relief efforts. Winery Insider’s 24-hour, inventory-limited sale, starting at 12:00 am June 8th, represents an opportunity to purchase limited-production wines while contributing to World Oceans Day efforts. In addition, first-time customers who enter the site via http://www.wineryinsider.com/sign-up/?ref=oceans will receive $10 Insider Credits to use towards their first purchase.
“The Gulf of Mexico oil spill has affected all of us, and we are honored to work with Humanitas in support of World Oceans Day,” said Tony Westfall, co-founder and President of Winery Insider with his business partner and wife Danielle Westfall. “We feel privileged to play a small role in helping ocean related organizations respond to this crisis and raise awareness of the fragility of the world’s oceans.”
Founded in 1997 by Judd Wallenbrock, Napa Valley-based Humanitas produces a diverse portfolio of vineyard-designated and appellation specific wines, donating its profits to charitable organizations that focus on education, hunger and housing. The June 8th offering will include the Humanitas Signum (signature reserve wines) and Good Earth (vineyard designate wines) tiers, including the highly-acclaimed Caldwell Vineyards Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.
World Ocean Day is a result of a United Nations General Assembly resolution passed in December 2008, World Oceans Day is now officially recognized by the UN as June 8th each year.
The concept for a “World Ocean Day” was first proposed in 1992 by the Government of Canada at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, and it had been unofficially celebrated every year since then. Since 2002, The Ocean Project and the World Ocean Network have helped to promote and coordinate World Oceans Day events worldwide. We help coordinate events and activities with aquariums, zoos, museums, conservation organizations, universities, schools, and businesses. Each year an increasing number of countries and organizations have been marking June 8th as an opportunity to celebrate our world ocean and our personal connection to the sea. Developed by wine industry entrepreneurs Tony and Danielle Westfall and launched in March 2010, Winery Insider offers a carefully-edited group of wines from all over the world at 40-80% off suggested retail prices. Modeled after similar online retailers in the fashion and home decorating categories, consumers must apply for free membership at www.wineryinsider.com to obtain access to Winery Insider’s offerings. The site posts 45-60 time and inventory-limited offers a month. All selections are made by a Tasting Panel led by certified Sommelier, Tony Westfall, who honed his palate tasting alongside some of the best known winemakers and sommeliers in California. The Panel, including sommeliers, collectors and wine industry employees, tastes hundreds of wines for Winery Insider, ultimately choosing only a small percentage to include.
Winery Insider is part of the Westfall’s Good Company Wines portfolio, which also includes VinoFina, an online wine retailer that donates a portion of proceeds from every bottle sold to non-profit and charitable organizations.
