Tribute For Keith Patterson May 11
A special tribute for Dr. Keith Patterson will be held on May 11 at Santa Margarita Ranch at 9000 Yerba Buena Ave. in Santa Margarita, California at 1 pm. Patterson, one of the driving forces behind Cal Poly’s highly respected Wine and Viticulture program, died March 21 at the age of 66. Patterson taught viticulture at CSU Fresno and University of Arkansas before being recruited to Cal Poly in 1997. He enjoyed a 16-year teaching career at Cal Poly until taking semi-retirement last spring to battle cancer.
Known as both a professor and pioneer in the world of viticulture, colleagues and students alike consider Patterson ‘one of the best and most influential instructors [they] have ever known at Cal Poly.’ With his great sense of humor and unmatched knowledge, Patterson shared his passion for the teaching and research of wine and viticulture. He constantly inspired those around him to do their best and follow what they love. With the creation of the service-based student club Vines to Wines in the early 1990’s, he was instrumental in getting the (program’s) minor approved in 1999 and the major in 2004. Without Dr. Patterson, the program would not be where it is today.
RSVP’s are welcome at firstname.lastname@example.org. Guests are encouraged to bring a dish to share as they celebrate the life of Dr. Keith Patterson.
