Wineries Launch Innovative Mobile App Programs for Spring Holidays

Date: 04/11/13

Wine marketers leverage new Hello Vino app features including a retail locator using geolocation and targeted messages on shoppers' smartphones.

Hello Vino, Inc., creator of the Hello Vino mobile app with an installed user base of 1.1 million wine consumers, has added new features to the first mobile marketing platform developed exclusively for the wine industry.

The Hello Vino app is the most popular wine-related application, ranking #1 for "wine" in the Apple App Store with a 4-star consumer rating. Hello Vino has been featured by The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and NPR, in addition to being selected as an Apple "Staff Favorite" and appearing on several "App Store Essentials" lists within iTunes.

The new features include a store locator that allows shoppers to find nearby retailers that carry the wines recommended by the app. Powered by data provided through Grappos, creator of industry-leading retail locator software, the Hello Vino app displays thousands of retail locations on a map and provide directions to nearby stores.

The mobile marketing platform delivers a unique experience to shoppers who opt-in to use geolocation services (or, geofencing), with contextual product placements reaching a highly-targeted audience of wine consumers. Winery campaigns that utilize the new retail locator feature are currently running in the Southeastern and Southwestern U.S.

"We are excited to launch this innovative feature for our winery partners," remarks Rick Breslin, Hello Vino founder and CEO. "Shoppers are receiving recommendations from the Hello Vino app to assist with their wine purchases – the next logical step is to help them find a store nearby.”

A February 2013 survey of Hello Vino app users found that 46 percent have purchased a wine based on the app’s recommendation. Of those users, 91 percent indicate they made repeat purchases of the recommended wine or brand. Fifty-seven percent of Hello Vino users have recommended the wines offered by the app to friends.
