Roseburg, Oregon, April 1 — An historic bank building, a classic car display, and an Oregon-built Yurt are just a few of the unique tasting venues awaiting wine enthusiasts on the 2013 Umpqua Valley Barrel Tours.
Three separate and geographically distinct tours are being offered this year: The North Tour, The Central Tour, and The South Tour. On each tour, participants board lively Barrel Tour Buses bound for wine tastings and food pairings at six of The Umpqua Valley’s award-winning wineries.
Wine enthusiasts on The North Tour will be among the first to visit two brand new tasting rooms that are opening for the 2013 season. The Triple Oak tasting room is housed within a century-old bank building in historic Oakland. Re-named The Wine Vault, the building has been restored based on the interior of the old bank and features a tasting bar made of the slate slab from the bank’s historic teller counter. Further north at Anindor, participants will be invited into Oregon’s first tasting room housed completely within an eco-friendly yurt. Anindor is one of three stops on the North Tour located in Elkton, which recently earned distinction from the federal government as Oregon’s newest AVA (American Viticulture Area).
The Central Tour features a blast from the past, with a 50s Rock theme and classic car display at The Henry Estate in Umpqua. Visitors will be able to vote for their favorite car while sipping both new releases and vintage wines from The Henry Estate’s wine library. The South Tour includes a stop at the new Vine and Wine Center at Abacela in Roseburg, which was just named “The 2013 Oregon Winery of The Year.” And every stop on every tour is a chance to meet and visit with the winemakers, and be among the first to sample their newest and most celebrated wines.
All three tours are offered on Saturday April 20th and Saturday May 4th with departures from Roseburg for the Central and South Tours, and from Cottage Grove for The North Tour. Tickets are $50 per person per tour, plus a $2 processing fee, and are available at www.umpquavalleywineries.org.
