SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – February 8, 2013 – On Jan. 31, the Disciples Escoffier International – USA inducted Chappellet Vineyard & Winery and owner and CEO Cyril Chappellet, into the Disciples Escoffier at a special event at Waterbar Restaurant. The winery and Cyril Chappellet received the Green Sash, marking their induction in the category of Food/Wine Producer. By being awarded the Green Sash, Chappellet becomes the first winery in the United States to receive the distinction of induction into the Disciples Escoffier.
The induction ceremony was part of a special reception hosted by the Triumph Higher Education Group and the Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts to honor chef Jeremiah Tower and Michel Escoffier, the great-grandson of Maitre Auguste Escoffier. In addition to honoring Tower and Escoffier for their contributions to the culinary world, the Disciples Escoffier welcomed Cyril Chappellet and fellow inductee, chef Mark Franz, into its membership. Both received the sash, official pin and a certificate distinguishing them as international members.
Cyril Chappellet and his family’s pioneering Pritchard Hill winery, which was founded in 1967, were honored for their many contributions to the wine industry, their agricultural focus and their ongoing commitment to the land. In addition to his role as Chappellet’s CEO, Cyril Chappellet was also recognized as a talented (though non-professional) cook, known for his marinades, rubs and legendary grill skills. Cyril has cooked alongside some of the North America’s best chefs, including Martha Stewart, who once joined him behind the grill for a special barbecue segment. Over the years, Cyril and his wife, Blakesley, have combined their cooking passion with their commitment to philanthropy, to create numerous one-of-a-kind BBQ-themed events and auction lots that have raised over $400,000 for charity. These grilling experiences have become must-bid-on lots at events like the Sun Valley Center Wine Auction, the Guild of Sommeliers Ultimate Wine Dinner and the V Foundation Wine Celebration.
In addition to the attending honorees and inductees, other culinary luminaries at the event included renowned chefs Mary Chamberlin, Joyce Goldstein, Michael Pythoud and Bert Cutino, Mirabel Hotel & Restaurant Group CEO David Fink and Master Sommelier Fred Dame.
