Bonny Doon Restaurant Offers Innovative Wine List Format
The restaurant now features a special Vins de Terroir section, organizing distinctive wines from around the world according to the soil types from which they derive.

Randall Grahm, winemaker and owner of Bonny Doon Vineyard is pleased to announce a special and innovative new feature of the wine list of Le Cigare Volant, the restaurant located on the premises of the winery. The restaurant, formerly known as Cellar Door, underwent a name change on April 1, 2012, with the arrival of Chef Ryan Shelton.

In addition to the Bonny Doon Vineyard wines already offered on its list, the restaurant now features a special Vins de Terroir section, organizing distinctive wines from around the world according to the soil types from which they derive. Grahm himself has selected the wines – predominantly farmed by organic and biodynamic methods – which he believes are particularly clear illustrations of distinctive terroirs. A brief discussion of on the vinous characteristics of wines made from unique soil types is provided, and a rotating flight of wines by the glass from a particular soil type is featured weekly.

To quote Randall: “I am unabashedly in love with vins de terroir. They are the wines that I aspire to make and the only ones that really matter. I am hopeful that this list will help foster an appreciation of these very special wines and function as a sort of heuristic to customers seeking to grasp a sense of the contribution of geology to the taste.” His hopes are that this small effort will encourage New World winegrowers to adopt practices that will support originality and distinctiveness in their wines as well as vitality in their soils.

Bonny Doon is committed to producing elegant, soulful, food-friendly wines in a largely hands-off, “acoustic” style, working with Biodynamic and organic growers wherever and whenever possible. The restaurant shares a common philosophy sourcing the finest local ingredients to create fresh, seasonal and honest flavors for the table.

Le Cigare Volant offers small lunch plates and full dinner service Wednesday thru Sunday. Starting May 21st, Le Cigare Volant will be open for lunch daily. Wednesday evenings are devoted to Community Table, a special prix fixe, family-style meal celebrating the experience of communal dining. Reservations are available by calling 831-425-6771 or at BonnyDoonVineyard.com/Reserve. Please visit www.LeCigareVolant.com for more information.
