Description: This course provides an overview of current and upcoming winery compliance issues at the operation, production, labeling, and distribution levels. Topics include: recent regulatory issues with air and water quality; food safety considerations (e.g., Bioterrorism Act, product contamination issues); a primer on direct shipment requirements; a review of federal labeling topics; winery-wholesaler relations and monopoly protection laws; trade practice issues; Proposition 65 warning requirements; and recent legislative changes that affect winery license privileges.
This course satisfies the compliance requirement for the Tasting Room Management Certificate. In Spring, the compliance core course offered is State Compliance for Direct Shipping. Either one of these courses satisfies the compliance requirement for the certificate. You do not need to take them both.

Wendell Lee is General Counsel for Wine Institute, the public policy trade association of California wineries. He has been with Wine Institute since 1980 and provides legal services for the organization. Prior to that, Wendell was a criminal trial attorney serving in the Office of the District Attorney for the City and County of San Francisco. He is a graduate of Hastings College of the Law and the University of Hawaii and a member of the California Bar since 1977.
