GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION
Join a quickly-growing, all-star team to supervize and manage all laboratory functions. Perform all routine laboratory anayses of juice, must and wine, along with data entry into AMS, from harvest through bottling. Work closely with winemakers to help manage winemaking activities. Manage hiring of temporary lab support for harvest. Excellent growth and development opportunities exist at the winery for the right candidate. Full-time, permanent position.
•B.S. in Enology or related field preferred
•Wine laboratory experience
•Management experience a plus
•Computer skills to include WORD, EXCEL and Outlook. AMS experience a plus!
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:
•Perform routine analyses of grape samples, juice, must and wine to include: TA, Brix, pH, VA, enzymatic RS and MA, NH4+, F/TSO2, specific gravity, turbidity, dissolved O2 and CO2, alcohol and heat and cold stabilities
•Monitor primary and secondary fermentations through harvest
•Manage and train the supporting laboratory technician
•Manage and train harvest laboratory interns and/or temporary laboratory employees
•Prepare fining and blending trials
•Order, prepare and maintain laboratory supplies and reagent inventories
•Maintain and calibrate instrumentation, standardize reagents and run monthly accuracy and reproducibility checks against Vinquiry
• Responsible for updating and confirming accuracy of laboratory SOPs and MSDS sheets
•Manage AMS laboratory data base and produce BOLs for shipping
•Support winemaking to include participation in tastings, blends, trials and reporting
•Member of the Safety Committee. Support IIPP and OSHA requirements
•Fulfill custom crush clients’ requests for lab analyses and shipping
•Participate in researching new equipment and solutions to winery problems (i.e. automated analysis equipment, alcolyzer, etc).
•Valid California driver’s licence with clean record
•Ability to lift 50 pounds
•Must be able to work weekends, nights and holidays during harvest
