Nelson Staffing is currently seeking a Vineyard Manager for one of our Oakville clients.
Ultra-premium winery in Oakville is looking for an experienced Vineyard Manager to join their team.
Manage the vineyards, making certain the vineyard crew completes cultural practices as denoted in written procedures developed by the Viticulturist and Winemakers.
Work with the Mechanic and Vineyard Supervisors to balance equipment needs in vineyards.
Work with Crew Supervisors to balance crew availability to complete different vineyard jobs throughout the growing season.
Work with Viticulturist to develop new procedures, spray programs, protocols, and farm plans for each vineyard under the position’s control.
Manage Crew Foreman and Crew Supervisor to make certain vineyard crew’s work meets the criteria established by written procedures and needs of the vineyard.
This position will work with the Crew Foreman or Crew Supervisor to solve problems with work conducted in vineyards.
Walk each vineyard weekly and to monitor pest levels and disease incidence.
Coordinate the delivery and availability of tractors and equipment to vineyards based on needs set forth.
Help Truck Driver deliver equipment to vineyards on an as needed basis.
Work with Tractor Drivers and Viticulturist to make certain tractor work meets criteria established in written procedures.
Work with Accounting Department to organize record keeping needed to support Pest Control Business License.
Review payroll for accuracy.
Support the billing process by reviewing supply use, equipment use, and personnel hours
Maintain the chemical inventory, producing a quarterly report for Accountant
Ability to start irrigation pump and open irrigation valves.
Ability to use vineyard establishment equipment, including post pounders, wire-tightening devices, and trenchers for irrigation equipment installation.
Assist with equipment purchase by making recommendations for the budget
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Three to five years of vineyard management experience
Bachelor of Science degree in Viticulture or related field is a plus
Viticulture knowledge of ultra premium grape growing practices, such as pest management, canopy management, irrigation practices, frost protection, and equipment use.
