A small, growing winery in Northern Virginia is seeking a General Business Manager to work with the owner and the board to lead the growth of the winery. The candidate will provide leadership in helping managing the overall business and guiding/overseeing all staff. The candidate must be agreeable to work a Friday-Sunday schedule (along with other 2 days) with some flexibility. The candidate will focus on building a growing, lasting and sustainable business, work with the owners on budgeting and financial projections, field daily calls and act as “The Face” of the winery to the outside world.
•Oversees all aspect of winery including tasting room, wine club and internet sales, kitchen, marketing, legal compliance
•Works with the owner/board to execute agreed upon strategic and operational plan
•Provides inputs and recommendations to modify plans and make necessary adjustments to business
•Develops and executes a performance tracking process to monitor progress against plan
•Manages finances and interacts with bookkeeper to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting
•Manages interstate legal compliance and monthly reporting to ABC
•Implements business processes to support effective management and looks for ways to continually improve the efficiency of procedures and services performed
Staff Leadership and Management
•Manages all aspects of HR including employee relations, legal compliance, and compensation and performance management
•Develops overall staffing plan, recruits and manages staff for key positions.
•Schedules all staff to ensure adequate service levels and world-class customer service.
•Designs and implements training plan and onboarding process for staff
Marketing and Sales
•Works with owner to create and implement marketing plan and strategies, ensuring that the website and all collateral support the winery's image. Manages/oversee social media, PR and other marketing
•Develops events and other promotions including wine parties, special member events and tastings, off site events, and facility rentals.
•Oversees and crafts strategy for sales through wine club, OTR and other sales channels
•Creates and maintains quality relationships with customers that include private individuals, corporate event coordinators, destination management companies, winery vendors, colleagues and management.
•Provides outreach to maintain or create new relationships including daily calls, weekly local visits, and monthly sales blitz to Event Planners, local hotels/B&Bs, and Corporate clients.
•Develop and maintain relationships within industry including VWA, VA Wine Marketing Office, etc.

We seek individuals who have demonstrated leadership and management capacity and intimate knowledge/experience in hospitality/wine industry.
•Business management and accounting/finance knowledge
•Demonstrated experience managing and leading multiple staff
•Experience running with proven ability to obtain higher sales rates and wine club signups while providing “white glove” or “concierge level” customer service and maintaining a comfortable, friendly and hospitable atmosphere in our Tasting Room.
•Experienced Marketing and Event Coordinator, who can craft professional marketing materials for use in the Tasting Room and at off-site events, write newsletters to our growing Wine Club, maintain a strong social media presence and conduct a wide variety of small on-site and off-site events that project a classy image and attract high-value clients.
•College degree, business management and hospitality experience and experience in winery tasting room sales and management are expected.
•At least Three (3) years of Hospitality Management experience, preferably in a winery tasting room environment.
•Bachelors degree in Hospitality Mgmt, Business, Marketing, Communications, or related field, or equivalent in experience and education.
•Must be proficient in Word, Excel, Internet Use and email use.
•Working knowledge of and appreciation for fine wine.
•Knowledge of sales training tools and techniques conducive to wine sales.
•Working knowledge of QuickBooks.
•Knowledge of how to balance a cash drawer.
•Knowledge of basic principles and practices of personnel administration, FLSA, and other employment laws and regulations.
