Position Summary: Delicato Family Vineyards is seeking a highly driven Director Business Development to oversee and direct the activities involved in the development, manufacturing, and market execution of large retailer exclusive brands from inception to implementation. The Director Business Development acts as a “Trusted Advisor” to the Delicato National Accounts team and to these retailers on all matters of the wine business including; global wine sourcing, wine supply status and cyclical trends, extensive knowledge of domestic and international wine regions and appellations, production and winemaking, marketing and graphic design, and legal compliance matters. Partners with the National Accounts team to deliver high quality exclusive brands to the largest retail chain customers and construct a “Best in Class” distributor network, ensuring the highest quality distribution to our retail partners.
Duties/Essential Job Functions:
•Demonstrates principled leadership and sound business ethics; shows consistency among principles, values, and behavior; builds trust with others through own authenticity and follows through on commitments; drives results and success; conveys a sense of urgency
•Develops strategic solutions for top retailers to meet their growing global wine needs and presents those solutions in a highly professional manner to ensure expanded market share of the retailers’ exclusive brand business and the national branded business
•Acts as the “Trusted Advisor” to the Company’s largest retail customers on all matters of the global wine business and to provide knowledge, coaching, and counseling to the National Accounts team on providing global exclusive brand solutions to the retail trade
•Works closely with the National Accounts team to build trust and develop a competent and high achieving customer focused sales organization recognized by management, competition, and customers as “best in class”
•Contributes to the organization’s profitability: sets and achieves sales goals while remaining within established budget, makes decisions that enhance the organization’s financial position, establishes realistic budgets, uses financial and quantitative information effectively to manage P&L statements, budgeting, forecasting, pricing, and marketing budgets
•Develops short-range tactical plans that are appropriately comprehensive, realistic, and effective in meeting divisional goals; integrates planning efforts across functional departments
•Identifies critical, high payoff strategies and prioritizes team efforts accordingly; uses information about the market and competitors in making decisions; recognizes strategic opportunities for success; adjusts actions and decisions for focus on critical strategic issues e.g. customers, quality, and competition
•Continually evolves profitable business model by providing creative solutions to customers’ changing needs and developing innovative product solutions for the prevailing market conditions and business cycles
•Works to build consensus with the Exclusive Brands team as well as cross functionally with Finance, Custom Resource Group (CRG), Winemaking, Compliance, and Customer Service
•Develops effective give-and-take relationships with others; understands their agenda and perspective and recognizes/effectively balances the interest and needs of Exclusive Brands and National Sales, and also with the broader organization
Education: The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Business Administration, Sales and Marketing, Communications or a related field of study.
Experience: 10+ years’ experience in direct wine sales delivering $20 million plus revenue. Established record in developing and building aggressive and competent sales organizations, meeting and exceeding sales goals within established budgets, and contributing to successful sales plans and strategies. High level of financial and business acumen; develop P&L statements, budgeting, forecasting, pricing, and deal structures.
Knowledge: Exceptional wine/market knowledge and excellent verbal/written communication, presentation, customer service, organizational, and negotiation skills are necessary to be successful. Requires strong PC skills (Excel, PowerPoint, and Email) along with the ability to navigate in the Internet/Intranet environments and use Nielsen/BDN data for effective business development. Must have an acceptable driving history and possess the ability to travel as needed.
