Roger King of Appellation America comments on the Wine Business blog post Too Many AVAs?

If you are not in the glorious state of California and somewhere else in the vast US wine region having any identity is important to help branding and regional sales. We tend to think way to often about just CA and forget there are 49 other states in the US wine production world that do have some reason to put value on AVA. Finger Lakes, Willamette Valley, Leelanau Peninsula all have come forward with world class wines attributed to these places we could have a lot of trouble naming without AVA. How about that great Riesling of Scott Harvey came from somewhere in northern Michigan near a lake for the place of origin.
