Picking Before the Storm

Stephen Ballard of Annefield Vineyards, a boutique producer in Southern Virginia, forwarded these pictures. They were picking on August 26. "We planned on picking tomorrow, but Hurricane Irene forced our hand," he said. I suspect the storm prompted many wineries in the East to pick earlier than anticipated.
