Last month I was fortunate enough to visit the cork oak forest in Portugal to see the harvest. There are about 2.1 million hectares of cork forest in the world, more than 730,000 of which are in Portugal. In the last 10 to 15 years, more than 130,000 hectares of cork oak have been planted in the country, and there are a number of reforestation programs in place.
