We received the following "News Flash" from the Napa Valley Grapegrowers:
The Napa Valley Grapegrowers has recently learned that the Napa Valley Unified School District (NVUSD) is contemplating the purchase of a 20 acre parcel of land zoned Agricultural Preserve for a future middle school site.
This would be the first conversion of Agricultural Preserve zoned land in Napa County to urban uses since the Ag Preserve was adopted more than 46 years ago in April 1968. The actions and decisions of the NVUSD are outside the jurisdiction of both the Napa County Board of Supervisors and the Local Agency Formation Commission. For this reason, and because this conversion would set a precedent in direct conflict with the mission of the Napa Valley Grapegrowers, we urge members to take action prior to the NVUSD’s meeting this Thursday, May 15 at 5:45 p.m. The agenda for that meeting can be found here. (Note that the item is discussed in closed session at the top of the agenda, but the vote towards the end of the meeting is part of public session)
WHAT CAN NVG MEMBERS DO?
CALL NVUSD trustees and voice your concerns that no ag land be taken out of the Ag Preserve for urban uses - or for annexation into the cities. Please click here for contact information
ATTEND the NVUSD meeting on Thursday and oppose this transaction. Urge the NVUSD to locate sites for future schools on non-AP lands
As always, we encourage members to call the NVG office or your Board of Directors liaison with any questions or comments.
