Across the newsdesk this week: 10 Restaurant Industry Trends to Watch Out For in 2014, a new infographic created by Kitchenall, a restaurant equipment supplier. This infographic categorizes the trends the restaurant industry has in store in 2014, into Culinary, Beverages, Marketing, Tech and Design.
Of note is the bit on technology. We have been spending more time learning about technology trends in the wine industry—in fact, we just completed our first technology survey (to be published in the July 2014 issue of WBM). One of the questions we asked wineries was if they designed their website to be viewed on a phone—about half of the respondents said yes. That is good. But is it good enough?
According to the infographic, increased interaction with restaurant guests via smartphones and other mobile devices is a blooming trend in 2014.
The infographic states that wireless bluetooth, fingerprinting and facial recognition technology will give customers the ability to pay their bill directly from their smartphones, significantly broadening payment options in 2014. My thought: Will this trend catch on in winery tasting rooms as well?
Another tidbit: The most popular use of smartphones while traveling is for finding restaurants (36 percent for smartphones, 21 percent for tablets). My thought: Are visitors to wine country finding your tasting room while searching on their smartphones? Is your tasting room information up to date on Google Maps?
