A reader from a California winery responds to Weather Intelligence:
For years we have been wanting to do a degree day calculation for tasting room sales. It has always been put off due to lack of free time and other reasons. But weather does affect tasting room traffic. Too cold, nobody comes in. Too hot, nobody comes in. Just like the grapevines. Too cold, no growth. Too hot, vines shut down.
Maybe we should have a tasting room degree day calculation so that we have no or minimal staffing on days we can predict will not have many customers. Or on the too hot days, move hours back into the cooler parts of the day or early evening.
