We got a note from Lisa Mattson from Jordan Vineyard & Winery who is working on an interesting project and we want to help her spread the word.

Lisa said because of the fragmented tiers within the solar, energy and wine industries, there is no single source tracking winery solar statistics. Frustrated by this, Lisa started a Solar Powered Wineries group on Facebook and is asking all of her colleagues in the business to help create the first comprehensive listing of solar wineries in the U.S.

From the Solar Powered Wineries Facebook group:

Because no single source exists for helping consumers and the media know which U.S. wineries are solar powered, Jordan Winery created this group. A list of 200 solar wineries compiled from three sources is included in the FILES tab above. Please add your winery name to the tab and any other contact information you wish to include (type of solar array, American made, website, year built, website, etc).

This is not the kind of group where we will be posting to walls and starting conversations. We just see a need that the fragmented solar groups and wine trade organizations are not meeting on education and resourcefulness for our valued consumers and journalists who wish to write about solar energy.

Visit the group on Facebook here.

Stellar Energy just completed installation on a 454-Kilowatt solar-photovoltaic array
on a steep hillside behind Jordan Winery.

Joe Becerra comments:

I started a list of California wineries with solar power three years ago. I have asked wineries to send info to me if they have solar power. My list is here: http://www.winecountrygetaways.com/solar-wineries.html

Lisa Mattson comments:

Yes. I commend your effort in taking the lead on this a few years ago. Unfortunately, your list is incomplete, and the only other list out there, kept by Wine Institute, only includes their members.

If we can get a comprehensive list created using social media outreach, I will turn it over to CSWG and hopefully they won't let their relationship with Wine Institute keep them from keeping the list maintained.
