Allied Grape Growers released its quarterly newsletter this week. Highlights include:

  • Grape Acreage Report Shows New Records
  • Prices Reflecting Market Strength
  • 2012 Bunch Counts Indicate Larger Crop

You can download the entire newsletter here.

Allied found that when comparing the acreage report against the nursery report there is a discrepancy total non-bearing acreage:

"The acreage report states that the current reported non-bearing winegrape acreage total is 18,299. This represents all vines reported as planted since 2009, because they are considered non-bearing for three years. However, via the nursery survey, Allied Grape Growers can substantiate that the actual amount of vines purchased for planting over the last three years is probably closer to 45,000 acres worth. That is quite a discrepancy."

The discrepancy can be attributed to growers and wineries voluntarily reporting acreage statistics affecting the accuracy of the report.
