Joseph Phelps, founder of the Napa Valley winery which bears his name, has presented a $1 million gift to the St. Helena Hospital’s capital campaign “Project Transform.”

Project Transform is a bold plan for updating and expanding the hospital by 21 beds and remodeling
facilities to support patient centered care with an eye toward innovation. The project was set in motion by the hospital leadership and made possible by our philanthropic partners in the community. These renovations will touch every patient room in the hospital with a focus on several key areas to include the new family birth center, and the expansion of the heart and vascular center, orthopedic wing, intensive care unit, and modernized sterilization equipment.

“The Napa Valley has been very good to us, and I want to do my part to bring top-notch care to our employees and the community,” Joe Phelps said. Phelps also lauded the many long time employees of this family owned firm by noting “it wastheir hard work that was responsible for the company’s success and this gift would not have been possible without them. “

Phelps has been one of the most active supporters of the St. Helena Hospital Foundation for over 25 years. Motivated by his strong desire to ensure quality healthcare for his employees and their families, Phelps has donated to many of the hospital’s initiatives, including the St. Helena Women’s Center and the hospital’s helipad. He also made an earlier gift of $1 million to the Foundation’s capital campaign, Caring For the Future.
