Bloggers have a new option when looking for protection against libel, slander, defamation, copyright infringement, and privacy violation suits— Arch Insurance Group, in partnership with CalSurance Associates, has released a new blogger insurance program called BloggerShield.

From Insurance Journal:

BloggerShield will offer options to customers such as a zero-deductible option, multiple limits option, and a supplemental claim expense limit. The coverage protects bloggers from potential lawsuits that could otherwise put both their blog content and personal assets at risk.

"BloggerShield is a product which is long overdue in the blogging community. As bloggers have learned to monetize their blogs and develop successful blog-based businesses, the need for insurance protection in the blogger community is something we can no longer ignore," said Tom Hext, chief technology officer of CalSurance Associates and program manager for the development of BloggerShield. “Bloggers are more vulnerable than ever to the threat of legal action, as evidenced by the increasing number of blog-related lawsuits. Without insurance protection, bloggers remain susceptible to the financial cost of defending lawsuits, potentially compromising their blog and their personal assets.”

Coverage is available to personal and professional bloggers. Premiums can run as low as $250. Those looking for more information on the product, risk management tools for bloggers, and how to purchase a policy can visit www.bloggershield.com.

Lyle Hitt, executive vice president of Arch's professional liability product line also noted:

"Our collaboration with CalSurance Associates on the BloggerShield product is a great example of the benefits of a carrier and program administrator working together to develop a solution for a unique problem. As the blogger community grows in force and number, so does the need for blogger liability insurance protection."
